My radio journey...
I think I have answered this particular question more than a hundred times by now. Let’s just say it was destiny in motion and I was at the right place at the right time… and the rest, as they say, is history!
Memorable incident...
Um... I really can't pinpoint just one moment. I personally feel that every day is a memorable one. It would be unfair to life and my job to cite just one. My job is such that everyday is more exciting and memorable than the last.
Making a difference…
Having worked in this profession for more than a decade and having lived through so much change and turmoil, one is bound to do what I did. I started covering social issues not just because I wanted to or on a lark but because I had to. These were my issues that I felt needed to be addressed first, if our society and country was going to move forward at all. I personally felt that I should contribute and bring whatever small change I could in my own way. It's been over four years now and I do hope it has made a difference however small it might be. At least I can proudly say I have and or am doing what little I can, instead of just sitting and complaining.
No room for celebrities...
I have never been able to really see myself personally as a celebrity. Celebrity is too big a word. I don't think in the context of our country we can really truly afford to have celebrities. I think you are delusional to believe that in Nepal you truly are a celebrity. We are mere Citizens trying to make a living like the rest of the country out of a profession we personally feel is what we are best at!With 12 hours load shedding, no fuel, Nepal bandh, no gas, no water, political instability, social unrest, a culture of impunity is increasing every day. Basically, my point is, when we are struggling to fulfill our basic needs and rights, where is the room for celebrities?
It is but Human Nature to seek a better life...
I would be lying if I said I didn't want to go abroad. There are times when you feel helpless, frustrated and depressed with situations and events that keep occurring in our country. It is but human nature to seek a better life. I believe that inherently human beings are nomadic. From times unknown, people have been traveling from one continent to another in search of fertile land and opportunities so why should it be different today? When the protectors of your own country become the predators, when your basic needs as human beings are not fulfilled, what choice do people have but to move in search of a better life and opportunities?
It does get a bit difficult to keep hopful for a better future...
In the last decade alone I have lost 80% of my friends and family to foreign shores and opportunities and I don't blame them, especially when you as a citizen of a country, despite being as tolerant as you can, as hopeful as you can, as patriotic as you can, get pushed to the ultimate limits of tolerance. When you see yourself more as a human being than a citizen, you compare your life with the lives of those of other countries. Honestly, it does get a bit difficult to keep faith and hope for a better future. I have spent more than a decade here, constantly believing that the much-needed change will come and can be brought by our own efforts too.
There's still much to do...
I definitely stand out from the crowd in my profession and among my fellow media colleagues. However, I do not want to stand out in a crowd for contributing my services to my society and country. And I do not want to make impossible claims, either, about what a difference I have made. If I say I made a difference, then, when looking at the state of our country, I would also have to say that my efforts were/are not enough. I have a long way to go before I personally will be making any such claims.Patriotism overrated...
I think patriotism today is overrated. Everyone is claiming and trying to prove he/she is a patriot. I think a true patriot is one who doesn't need to make such claims or try too hard to prove otherwise. The simplest of person, who might have made the simplest difference for a country without anyone noticing or recognizing it, could be a true patriot. He might not change the course of history, his name might not be written down in golden words, and he might just die as a nobody, yet, he could be the truest patriot whom we might never even know about.
Youths today...
I think youths today are way smarter, updated and progressive than they are given credit for.
