"The right clothes, the right make-up and the right attitude do not get you noticed" - Manavi Dhakal
Personal Information:
Getting hooked to the media ...
I am a simple girl from a small town with big dreams. I never imagined that I’d be a part of the Nepali media but it just happened and I do credit the media industry which helped me shape this prospect in my life.
I joined Kantipur FM as a Radio Jockey and after two years of being on the radio waves I was offered a job for television. I felt passionate and dedicated to radio and television. Media is an influencial vehicle reaching out to so many people, influencing their lifestyles, helping them breathe hope, and for me the best part was the fact that I felt like I belonged within them. I could really be a part of their lives.
If you ask me if I am a celebrity... I'd say I am not!!!
I don’t consider myself to be a celebrity. I do enjoy being recognized in the crowd but that's it, nothing more!!! I am too little to carry that tag and I don't care if I am a celebrity or not; what I care most is who I really am !
Television is the perfect icing on my cake...
If anyone had the privilege of being on television every single day, they would certainly become famous. Televison has surely been the prefect icing on the cake in my career. I host a live TV show, talk to people from all different walks of life, share their dreams, share their problems, and their lives. It feels like I am sitting in my drawing room and having a chat with friends. Television surely has helped make that connection possible.
Being a Video Jockey is fun but the job also comes with great responsibility. Therefore I always make it a point to deliver the right message to today's young generation so that they can have some guidance in becoming sure of what they want to do in their own lives.
Politics is my cup of tea...
John F Kennedy once said “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I am someone who loves my country very much, therefore politics is my cup of tea. At times, I end up arguing with people who have nothing to say except for negative things about the country. Our country is what we make of it, if our country is going through a bad phase, partly we are to be blamed too. So rather than sitting and playing the blame game, do something for the country that has made you who you are today, which has given you the identity of being a Nepali.
Everyone deserves a good life, no matter who they are and where they come from...
I believe no matter how much you give, it’s never enough. I am one of the brand ambassadors for UCAAN, Universal Access for Children Living with AIDS in Nepal. I have been involved with them for a few months now, and every now and then when they need my help I cancel all my plans and devote myself to the kids. I believe everyone deserves a good life, no matter who they are and where they come from.
The right clothes, the right make-up and the right attitude are just not enough - you must have a place for others in your life as well. We all need to summon the altruistic side inside us to make our world a better place to live in.
Tell-tale heart...
Well, I eat chocolates every night before I go to bed, I don’t miss out on it, no matter what. I keep three journals - first about my daily life, second about the people I love and third about my dreams and hopes. I get nervous every time I have to face the camera, and speak in front of a mass of people.
It's a long race ahead...
Love yourself, try to be your own favorite. Anything you do, put your heart and soul into it. No one’s prefect but don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts and don’t put up with those who are reckless with yours. Don’t waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you succeed and sometimes you fail - the race is long but in the end it is really only a race between you and yourself.
