An artist is always on the go...
If I am a little good in anything, that would be creativity. But if I were to be asked what satisfies me the most, then that would be painting and writing. What generally starts as a mere hobby for an artist soon turns out to be addiction. I always have this need to create. The best thing about being an artist is that you are always on the go and are always searching for new perspectives to creativity. So for me art is always an adventure. I am always trying new things. I have also been conceptualizing a couple of books; let’s see if I can finish writing them. I might also want to make some films in the future.

Some of my memorable accomplishments... I have been involved with the visual arts for a long time and have had solo exhibitions in Nepal and abroad. I have been writing columns for different magazines and have had four collections of poetry published. In 2007, I was invited to participate in XVII International Poetry Festival in Medellin, Colombia. Furthermore, my book of short stories and haiku called “Mist around the Stupa” was published by Chautara Publications, the Netherlands in 2009.

My radio shows have no meaning without my audience... I have never considered myself to be a celebrity. I feel lucky to be doing the things I love doing the most. Everyday I come across someone new who tells me that he/she appreciates my work. I enjoy this but I always make sure that I don’t get carried away by this little popularity I have acquired. My radio shows would have no meaning without my audience and their wonderful participation.

Appreciate the little things in life... Simple things like a sunset can give me high. I would like to share an incident. I think it was late 2004 when the insurgency was at its peak. I was trying to cross the Bagmati Bridge. Army personnel were posted at the two ends of the bridge. Right in front of me was a school bus with children. As the bus passed the army man, one of the children close to the window lifted his hand to salute him. This soldier was bewildered; he then smiled and saluted back to the child. I don’t know what made the child salute the soldier but, I know this little action by the child made the hours of standing for the soldier a little more meaningful. I don’t know how many people saw this little escapade and saw what I saw as you know it’s not just enough to see things - you need to “see” things.

Home is where the heart is... I have always loved Nepal. And every time I go abroad, I get homesick instantly and have this need to come back. Yes, there are times when we all get frustrated with the political unrest. But Nepal is home. You wouldn’t want to run away from home if there are rats or rat holes, would you? You need to deal with the rats and fix the holes!

Love is the path to peace... In the past, Nepali people have always been famous for their ability to respect different cultures, religions, traditions and values and live in harmony. We seem to have lost that a bit at present. But someday I hope we will realize that we need to rise beyond our individual differences and love each other as citizens of one beautiful country, Nepal. It is only love that will save humanity anywhere!

Today's brilliant youngsters... Today’s youth amaze me. They are all intelligent and smart and know so much! I know we are all going through tough times and we don’t have enough opportunities but the youth of today are clever enough to make wonderful opportunities for themselves. We want our brilliant youngsters to stay in the country!

You only live once... You just live once. The only way you can experience the joys of a painter is by painting. The only way you can experience poetry is by actually writing a poem. There are so many wonderful things you can do in life and I believe one has to try, at least.

Last words... My final words to my young friends would be - smoking, drinking or taking drugs don’t make you cool. Your life is precious and you live not only for yourself but for your parents, your loved ones and your country as well! I wish you happiness and I wish all of us; Peace.
